Band

Gael Sli, are a Dublin based band who perform a rich mixture of material; Irish traditional, ballads, folk tunes and original penned songs/instrumentals. They can be seen on many Folk festivals in the USA and Europe. Gael Sli is a word play on Gheill sli, an Irish road sign which translates in English to give way, but with the Gheill replaced by Gael, it takes on another meaning ie; Irish way! Formed in 2002, this band consists of Siobhan Warfield; singer songwriter and Robin Hurt; guitarist, mandolin player and singer and Dave Keegan; Djembe player, drummer, guitarist, songwriter and Fiddler Adrian Hart.

2002/2003 saw the band headline a major Folk Festival in Holland along with Four men and dog, Eimear Quinn and other Irish luminaries, they also performed for the Lord Mayor at the Mansion House for International Women?s Day, toured the US in March and September and released a Live album entitled “the Irish century”. They also played official concerts for the Ancient Order of Hibernians, CBS TV and for Celtic TV in the US.

For the past three years they have performed live at HMV on Fifth Avenue, in New York city appearing as part of their St. Patrick’s Day lunchtime concert series, along with Dervish, Kila, the Wolfetones and the Chieftains. 2004 saw them appear live on St Patricks Day in Chicago on Channel 9’s WGN TV morning news show to an estimated audience of 20 million!

Gael Sli are recording a new folk roots album in March which will be on general release this Summer.

Here’s what others have to say on the band:

Indy Festival Sept 2004. http://www.indyirishfest.com/ “We saw Gael Sli perform at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and loved it so much that we stayed all day AND night til they performed again at 8:30 p.m. It was our first visit to the festival and it was great. The group was fantastic and it was wonderful to have an authentic Irish group from Ireland!!? We bought the CD and enjoyed it very much.?? We appreciate the band taking time to chat with us and sign the CDs”.

“Sound Off” review of Poes Pub, in Richmond, Virginia Loosely translated “Gael Sli” means “Irish way,” which is an apt name for this five-piece from the Emerald Isle. The group, formed in 2002, played traditional ballads, jigs, and reels with their own youthful zeal and you can see why they are fast becoming one of the more popular touring Irish bands in the U.S. Gael Sli were on their “Party Like The Irish” tour. They’ll certainly brought the pluck of the Irish to Poe’s Pub in Richmond and with the luck of the Irish, you won’t miss them next time they come!!

http://www.dailysouthtown.com/ The main act at Johnny O’ Hagans was “Gael Sli”, a band that has been genetically engineered for greatness. Siobhan Warfield, gracing the Harp, accordion and vocals is the daughter of Brian Warfield of “The WolfeTones”. We rocked and rolled and jigged through an evening of Irish traditional music and song. At the end, we were left gasping for more”.

Siobhan Warfield (Vocals, Harp, accordion, Songwriter)
Siobhan Warfield has been singing in a variety of styles since she was young, including a spell as lead singer with the indie-rock band Goldfish who had a Top 40 hit single in 2000, but has always found her strongest vocal affinity in Irish traditional music. This is partly a family affair, as her father is Brian Warfield of the Wolfetones. With two albums already under her belt, Siobhan has been performing with Gael Sl? since 2002, she is a songwriter as well as an interpretive singer and also plays harp, accordion, piano and guitar.

Robin Hurt (Guitar, mandolin, vocals)
Robin is an amazing accomplished guitarist. Indeed having played with such well known figures as Ronnie Drew ( The Dubliners) and Sinead O’ Connor, he is well sought after as a session musician in Dublin. Robin had previously played in the folk band Bohinta with Martin Furey…

David Keegan (Djembe, Mandolin, Percussion, vocals)
David is the main with the beats. Indeed he has provided the rhythm for people like David Kitt and Jimmy Faulkner, as well as Maire brennan from Clannad and Bagatelle. A talented songwriter also, he is currently recording a solo album

Fiddler Adrian Hart is classically trained and is well respected in both the traditional and classical genres. At only 22, Adrian has played many folk festivals with his father in the UK. He is an arranger as well as a composer.
