Gael Sli’s line up will be exciting and interesting this year, as a new element has been added in the form of Martin Furey( son of Finbar Furey of the Furey Brothers and Davey Arthur). Talented in his own right, Martin has been previously known as lead singer and songwriter for Bohinta. He is one of the best uileann pipe (Irish pipes) players, as well as low whistle players Ireland has ever produced. He will be playing many reels and tunes that he has written himself on this tour and we are only delighted and honoured to have him on tour with us!!
A new live album is to be released in the USA this March entitled Gael Sli “Live”. This includes many of the favourites from the concerts including the “Womens drinking song”, “Echoes of you” penned by Siobhan, and “Matty Groves” as well as some traditional medleys of reels and jigs.
Gael Sli will appear on Thursday, March 11th at HMV on fifth avenue to perform live as part of HMV’s St Patrick’s Lunchtime concert series.
The festival circuit will not be the same this year! Following exciting and show stealing live performances at Indy fest last Sept and at the Bergen Op zoom folk festival in Holland, (Supporting Four men and a Dog), Gael Sli intend to be even more active this year – So keep an eye for dates in festivals around your corner of the world…
The lead vocalist Siobhan Warfield is releasing a solo album this year on the Celtic collections label entitled “Heart and Soul”. And yes, you’ve guessed it, it does include that old song from the 30’s “Heart and Soul”. The album is more in the pop/rock vein, although the Album contains an eclectic mix of styles. Says Siobhan ” I write songs and because it’s not band generated and more song dictated, many styles tend to come out. I don’t see this as a bad thing, I see this as interesting for the listener. Once the song and the lyrics are good that will come across, regardless of style.”
Gael sli recently played the Mansion House, home of the Lord Mayor of Dublin, for Amnesty International, as part of International Womens Day. Indeed sharing the stage with none other than Delores O’ Riordan from the Cranberries. Their music formed part of the Celebration of women and their courage in the face of torture, racism and violence.
